Accounts, 1704-1717.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of an account of Horatio Walpole's personal finances, consisting of records of bills paid and monies received between 1704 and 1717. Though the lists of amounts received record only the names of payees, the lists of amounts paid provide itemized details of Walpole's purchases. On August 25, 1706 is recorded a payment to the midwife at the christening of Walpole's godson, Horace Mann; other entries include payments to Walpole's cook, oilman, solicitor in Chancery, wig maker, laundry maid, shoemaker, washerwoman, apothecary, and wine merchant. The account book also records purchases of personal items and foodstuffs such as a sidesaddle, lottery tickets, lemons and chestnuts, and fishing tackle; as well as gifts sent to Walpole's friends and purchases made for his family members. Also included in the manuscript are numerous payments to the scribe's uncle, Jeffery Mann.
